Pegasus Cup 2008 Champions: Forest BU10 Red

July 02, 2008

The Notts Forest BU10 Red Team competed in the annual Pegasus Cup Tournament in San Diego during the weekend of June 28 - June 30th and won the championship! They played amazing throughout the tournament, with their best effort of the tournament saved for the championship game.

The boys started off the tournament impressively, posting a 5-0 win in their 1st match vs Scripps United. Their second game of group play resulted in a 0-0 draw with FC San Diego - Moran. Although they dominated the game, and out shot their opponent 10-2, the phenomenal effort of FC San Diego's goalkeeper kept the match at 0-0. The boys then finished off group play with a 2-1 win over Mission Viejo Pateadores. If not for a free kick goal scored by Mission Viejo at the last minute of that game, the boys would have finished group play having given up no goals. However, they ended up finishing group play with a very impressive 7 goals for, and 1 goal allowed. Those results are a tribute to the hard work that the team put in at the Notts Forest Football Club team camp the week right before the tournament.

The team then matched up with FC San Diego - Cardoza in the semi-finals and ended up beating them 3-1. They made the championship game and were matched up with West Coast FC. The final game started off as a nightmare for the team, having given up a penalty and an early goal. They were down 2-0 before scoring right before the half to make it 2-1 at half time. After the team gathered themselves at half time, they came out energetic and inspired, scoring 4 goals after the half to win the championship game 5-2!

Coach Marvin Tarroja told the boys after the game "You guys showed your heart and character coming back from 2 goals down in the final match to win 5-2. I'm very proud of the effort you've shown in this tournament. You played hard all throughout and I always believed that you were a talented team. This Pegasus Cup trophy is a result of the focus and hard work that you put into playing this weekend, and with more practice, we can continue to get even better! This is only the beginning!"
