The following is “General Information for Entry Level Referee Clinics”
Upon completion of the course and registration, candidates will receive a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) badge, and be eligible to referee games immediately.
Course completion requires:
1. Attendance for all instruction (16 – 18 hours)
2. Score of at least 75% on the USSF Entry Level Referee examination (100 detailed questions, true/false and multiple choice)
3. Completing a USSF Referee registration form INCLUDING SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, and payment of the registration fee. The registration fee is $50, payable to “SRC”
4. Referees are required to re-certify and register annually, on a calendar year basis. There are various re-certification (refresher) clinics given in Southern California during the year. There is an annual re-registration fee. Referees must be registered for the current calendar year to be assigned to USSF affiliated games (e.g. all CYSA-South youth games, most adult amateur games).
5. The entry level clinic is mostly classroom lecture, so candidates must bring materials for taking notes and doing classroom work, i.e. BRING PAPER AND SOMETHING TO WRITE WITH.
6. Wear comfortable clothes. There will be some work on the field, but soccer cleats are not generally required.
7. It is the responsibility of the referee to make contact with a referee assignor to be assigned to games. BEFORE LEAVING THE CLINIC, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NAME AND PHONE NUMBER OF AT LEAST ONE ASSIGNOR. Call the assignor to let him know you want games. There is no guarantee that you will be assigned games, or even that your name will be given to any assignors. Getting games is your responsibility. You will also have to purchase your own referee uniform and equipment (cost about $50)
