Notts Forest BU10 Red - Encinitas Rotary Cup Finalists

August 11, 2008

The Notts Forest BU10 Red team continued a successful summer tournament season by becoming finalists in the top BU10 bracket at the Encinitas Rotary Cup.

The team started out the tournament well, shutting out Ramona Intra 5-0 in their first game. Their second game was a very even and competitive match vs a very big, physical and fast Scripps United team. However, they were very unlucky to lose 1-0 with Scripps scoring a goal 2 minutes from the end of the game. The boys rebounded well from their 2nd game against Scripps and put on an impressive passing display in their 3rd game, providing another shutout by beating FC Heat 4-0. With 2 wins and 1 loss from group play, the team earned a place in the championship match vs Scripps United.

While the boys played better against Scripps United in the championship match, they were again, very unlucky to lose to them again 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by Scripps directly from a corner kick! The game was very evenly matched, with each team having an equal amount of chances to score.

While the boys were obviously disappointed with the result of the match, coach Marvin cheered his team up by saying: "these are the types of games that are going to make us stronger, and better as a team.  Playing good teams such as Scripps United in very competitive matches brings out the best in us, and don't let the result of the final match take away from the fact that we had an outstanding tournament."
