Boys U10 Black makes good showing at Pegasus Cup!
July 10, 2008
Notts Boys U10 Black, a first year team, participated in their second tournament of the Summer at Pegasus Cup. In our first game, the boys played Sharks Gold. The score was tied at one at half, but the Sharks scored 2 goals in the second half to win 3-1, in a hard fought and well played game. The team had plenty of good scoring opportunities, but were unable to find the net.
In their second game, the team played eventual tournament runner-up, West Coast FC. Down 3-2 in the first half, Notts scored what appeared to be the tying goal late in the half, but it was waived off due to a questionable offsides call. The second half was also hard fought, but West Coast prevailed with three late goals and won 6-2.
In their final game, Alan Lorenzano scored on a direct kick from 18 yards with about a minute to play, and Israel Mendez made several stops on goal-bound shots to earn his first career shutout. The team ended the tournament with an excellent win and finished seventh in the overall standings in a very competitive Silver division.
Coach Sevilla and his U10 Black team return to tournament play in the upcoming Carlsbad Cup, July 19-21, and hope to build on their positive showing and inspiring play at Pegasus Cup.
